Surrounded by the sea, Salina is not an island like the others.

Tourism and fishing are not the main activity.  Even before disembarking, you can see how man’s farming activity in the past changed the profile of the two mountains.

Small terraces, built with dry stone walls, climb to the peak, making the most of the now dormant volcano’s most impervious slopes.
